Doctoral Research Scholars Awards

Doctoral Research Scholars Awards is available to all PhD students who want to pursue a research at Yesbud University and who wish to continue with their research. In addition, eligible students will be enrolled to study a PhD program offered at Yesbud University during the entire academic year.

Manuscript: Students will be required to produce an academic article manuscript about their research. While our class does not require you to submit it to a journal yet, your assignment will be close to a final draft that you, with the approval of your mentor, could submit for publication.

Podcast: Students will collaborate on producing a public-facing podcast about research. In small groups, you will decide on an episode topic and identify the format, structure, come up with a script, invite speakers (when applicable), etc. You’ll also be able to contribute and/or gain skills in production, editing, storytelling, etc. We will be working on this with guidance from Faculty Members.

Seminar and Workshops

Students will participate in small (<30 students) bi-weekly workshops. These workshops are designed to help provide students with the skills that they need to disseminate their research findings. For some students, this may be submitting a manuscript to an undergraduate or professional journal. For others, it may be writing an op-ed piece, hosting an exhibition, creating a videotalk, maintaining a blog, creating a website, or giving a formal oral presentation. Throughout the year, students will be required to share their research in two ways.

Peer Facilitator Meetings

Students are required to attend two individual meetings per Bimester with their assigned Peer Facilitator and a small interdisciplinary group peer review meeting facilitated by their Peer Facilitator. They also participate in one discipline specific peer review session with another student (training on how to provide constructive peer feedback will be provided).

PhD student who participate in the Doctoral Research Scholars program will ultimately:

  • Produce a written doctoral thesis to be published in the doctoral Research Scholars Forum
  • Make a public presentation
  • Earn a university-level honors transcript distinction
  • Acquire knowledge beyond the classroom
  • Gain a better understanding of Doctoral School
  • Improve their chances for acceptance into doctoral or professional schools, fellowships, and grants
